The technological revolution that has taken place in recent years, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning, has opened up completely new scenarios that were unimaginable just a few years ago. The computer is no longer an inert machine that simply executes the instructions given by the programmer in a rigid and sequential manner but, because it is endowed with “learning capabilities”, it becomes an active interlocutor, capable not only of absorbing enormous amounts of data, but also of processing them, extracting new knowledge from them. In the face of this rapid technological development, the EU was faced with the urgent need to address the problem of its legal regulation. The European AI Act comes at the end of a long and arduous journey and, despite its inevitable limitations, is the first experience of organic and structured regulation of Artificial Intelligence in the multiplicity of its applications.
