Abstract

The essay examines the impact of generative artificial intelligence on the traditional model of legal practice, highlighting the risks to the monopoly lawyers hold in legal consultancy. The use of AI in legal advice could blur the boundaries between genuine legal practice and commercial activities, raising the increasingly relevant issue of unauthorized practice of law and the need for specific regulation. In particular, from the perspective of this essay, the AI Act does not adequately address the risks posed by AI tools in the legal context, potentially jeopardizing access to justice and the transparency of algorithmic decision-making.
